ABOUT
Mrauk U is a place of extraordinary significance for Burmese and Arakanese history, now told through the ancient architecture and artefacts found by initial archaeological endeavours. An unheralded ancient site to rival Angkor Wat or Bagan, still so untouched that today you are more likely to see inhabitants praying at any of the half-millennia-old stupas than another visitor.
For many years it has also been a place that time forgot-hidden within a country that was already cut off for so long. It is a place where electricity only arri ved a couple of years ago.
In 2008 Mrauk U Princess was created to share this lost kingdom to the world responsibly. Its story is one of commitment and dedication to this vision.
To provide electricity we collected discarded rice husks from local farmers and constructed a rice husk generator. We restored two teak river boats to expand our boutique hotel experience onto the river and allow visitors to explore the area in comfort and style. Commissioned traditional stone carving and local artwork bedeck the hotel and food is locally sourced where possible.
The result is a visit unlike any other in Myanmar, away from the beaten track and the usual spots, a unique boutique experience in one of the world’s last hidden wonders.
